About the Artist

Hi, my name is Abbey. I'm a contemporary, still-life oil painter based in London and Hertfordshire.

I create bold, statement still-life work, focusing on objects that speak to me and a contemporary audience and often create a sense of nostaligia.

My work combines traditional oil-painting techniques with pop-culture imagery; nothing is more fun than using arguably the word's most traditional and highly-esteemed mediums and pigments to paint bright lego bricks. This powerful and whimsical dichotomy is the quintessential ethos to my work.

With books and classic Hollywood cinema being beloved influences, as well as a long and happy career as a scenic artist for theater, TV and film, my work often incorporates hand-painted and carefully considered wording in quotation marks, bringing life to these inanimate objects in profound and emotive ways.

I love to play with depth of field, dramatic perspective and chiaroscuro, giving my work an intentional surreal quality, and creating a distinctive style that aims to bring a new lease of life to the genre of still-life painting.
